Abstract

Objective: To describe nasal and septal deviation in patients requiring orthognathic surgery and to investigate their association with maxillary, mandibular and chin asymmetries.

Methods: A descriptive retrospective study was conducted using preoperative CBCT-based 3D images of patients undergoing orthognathic surgery. Patients with congenital craniofacial anomalies, history of mandibular condylar hyperplasia, or prior rhinoseptoplasty were excluded.

Results: Most patients presented with some degree of nasal deviation, and all had septal deviation. Septal deviation was significantly correlated with nasal tip deviation and dorsum deviation. Nasal deviation was also associated with the direction of maxillary, mandibular and chin deviation.

Conclusion: Nasal and septal deviations are highly prevalent in patients requiring orthognathic surgery. Nasal and septal assessment should be incorporated into diagnosis and surgical planning to optimize facial harmony and functional outcomes.
