Abstract

Objective: Description of survival outcomes and associated factors in patients with stage III-IV ovarian carcinoma at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital period of 2019-2024.

Research subjects and methods: A descriptive, retrospective study was conducted on 47 patients treated at the Oncology Center of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2024.

Research results: The mean age of the patients was 57.68 ± 8.8 years, with the 50 - 60 age group being the most common. Stages III and IV accounted for 74.5% and 25.5% of cases, respectively. Serous carcinoma was the most prevalent histological subtype, accounting for 83.0% of cases. The median overall survival was 44.0 months (95% CI: 25.5 - 62.4), and the median progression-free survival was 16.0 months (95% CI: 13.1 -19.0). Histological subtype (p = 0.002) and initial treatment modality (p = 0.001) were statistically significantly associated with progression-free survival. Patients with stage III disease had a longer median progression-free survival than those with stage IV disease (16.3 compared with 13.1 months), though the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.239).

Conclusion: Survival outcomes for patients with stage III-IV ovarian carcinoma remain limited. Histological subtype and initial treatment modality are significantly associated with progression-free survival (p < 0.05).
