SURGICAL OUTCOMES OF BIPOLAR HEMIARTHROPLASTY FOR INTERTROCHANTERIC FEMORAL FRACTURES AT TIEN GIANG GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of bipolar hemiarthroplasty for the treatment of intertrochanteric femoral fractures at Tien Giang General Hospital.
Methods: A prospective descriptive case series was conducted in 21 patients with intertrochanteric femoral fractures who underwent hemiarthroplasty at Tien Giang General Hospital from January 2024 to March 2026. The mean follow-up duration was 9.14 ± 2.98 months (range, 3–12 months).
Results: The mean age was 72.05 ± 5.34 years (range, 63–85 years); According to the AO/OTA classification, type A2 fractures accounted for 76.2% of cases; Uncemented long-stem bipolar hemiarthroplasty was used in 71.4% of patients; Overall, 71.4% of patients achieved good or excellent functional outcomes, with a mean Harris Hip Score of 82.10 ± 5.23 points; One patient (4.7%) developed deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity.
Conclusion: Bipolar hemiarthroplasty for the treatment of intertrochanteric femoral fractures provides favorable clinical and functional outcomes. However, longer-term follow-up and evaluation are warranted.
