Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of colorectal cancer and analyze differences according to tumor location at Nghe An Oncology Hospital.

Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 511 patients with newly diagnosed, histopathologically confirmed colorectal cancer from January 2024 to May 2026.

Results: Patients aged ≥ 60 years accounted for 68.1%, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.6. A history of colorectal disease and a family history of cancer were reported in 2.5% and 9.2%, respectively. Abdominal pain was the most common symptom (78.5%). Tumors were predominantly located in the rectum (41.7%) and left colon (37.2%); moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma accounted for 88.7%, and stage III–IV disease for 58.9%. Significant differences according to tumor location were observed in abdominal pain (p = 0.021), hematochezia (p = 0.001), weight loss (p = 0.016), and disease stage (p < 0.001).

Conclusion: Colorectal cancer predominantly occurred in patients aged ≥ 60 years, with tumors mainly located in the rectum and left colon. Some clinical manifestations and disease stages differed according to tumor location.
