Abstract

Objective: To analyze disease-related factors associated with osteoporosis among women with knee osteoarthritis at Vo Truong Toan University Hospital in 2025.


Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using retrospective medical record review. A total of 114 female patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis according to the 1991 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) criteria, who underwent bone mineral density assessment using quantitative ultrasound (QUS) at Vo Truong Toan University Hospital between January 1 and December 30, 2025, were included.


Results: Dyslipidemia was the only disease-related factor significantly associated with osteoporosis among women with knee osteoarthritis (OR = 3.93, 95% CI: 1.63–9.48; p = 0.002). No statistically significant associations were observed for other disease-related factors, including a history of fracture, family history of osteoporosis, long-term corticosteroid use, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and hyperthyroidism (p > 0.05).


Conclusion: Dyslipidemia was significantly associated with osteoporosis among women with knee osteoarthritis, whereas no significant associations were identified for the other disease-related factors evaluated.
