Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and evaluate treatment outcomes in patients with stage II–III colon cancer receiving adjuvant chemotherapy with the mFOLFOX6 regimen at Bac Ninh Cancer Hospital.

Subjects and Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 55 patients with stage II–III colon cancer who received adjuvant chemotherapy with the mFOLFOX6 regimen at Bac Ninh Cancer Hospital from January 2020 to January 2025. The evaluated variables included clinical and paraclinical characteristics, disease stage, number of harvested lymph nodes, overall survival, disease-free survival, and treatment-related toxicities.

Results: The mean age was 59.9 ± 9.2 years. Abdominal pain was the most common reason for hospital admission, accounting for 70.9% of cases. Right-sided colon tumors accounted for 58.2% and left-sided tumors for 41.8%; adenocarcinoma was the most common histological type, accounting for 81.8%. High-risk stage II and stage III disease accounted for 54.5% and 45.5%, respectively. Fewer than 12 lymph nodes were harvested in 29.1% of patients. The mean follow-up duration was 35.8 ± 12.3 months. The 3-year overall survival and disease-free survival rates were 88.7% and 78.3%, respectively. Most toxicities were grade 1–2, while grade 3–4 toxicities were primarily hematologic.

Conclusion: The mFOLFOX6 regimen showed favorable survival outcomes and relatively good tolerability in patients with high-risk stage II and stage III colon cancer.
