THE COVERAGE CAPABILITY OF THE PROXIMAL-BASED ABDUCTOR HALLUCIS MUSCLE FLAP IN VIETNAMESE ADULTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the coverage capacity of the proximal-based abductor hallucis muscle flap in adult Vietnamese individuals.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 30 amputated foot specimens and cadaveric feet from Vietnamese adults (≥18 years of age) from March 2025 to September 2025.
Results: The coverage capacity of the proximal proximal-based abductor hallucis muscle flap based on the largest arterial branch was limited by a circle centered at the origin of this artery, with a mean arc-of-rotation radius of 80.86 mm in the original configuration and ranging from 60.07 to 80.00 mm in the folded configuration. The coverage capacity of the proximal-based abductor hallucis muscle flap based on the medial plantar artery was limited by a circle centered at the origin of the medial plantar artery, with a mean arc-of-rotation radius of 103.62 mm in the original configuration and 77.31 mm in the folded configuration.
Conclusion: The proximal-based abductor hallucis muscle flap provides broad coverage of defects in the ankle and hindfoot region. The proximal pedicle based on the medial plantar artery provides a wider arc of rotation and significantly more comprehensive and reliable coverage than the flap based on the largest arterial branch.
