FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH EARLY OUTCOMES OF FOREARM REPLANTATION FOR TRAUMATIC AMPUTATION AT 108 MILITARY CENTRAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To analyze selected factors associated with the early outcomes of forearm replantation for traumatic forearm amputation at 108 Military Central Hospital.
Subjects and Methods: An analytical descriptive study with a combined retrospective and prospective design was conducted on 31 patients with traumatic forearm amputation who underwent replantation between January 2021 and June 2026. Early outcomes were classified into three categories: complete survival, partial necrosis, and total necrosis. Univariate associations were assessed using the Fisher–Freeman–Halton exact test and Cramér’s V.
Results: Early outcomes included complete survival in 74.2% of cases, partial necrosis in 19.4%, and total necrosis in 6.5%. Early outcomes were significantly associated with injury pattern (p=0.034; V=0.542), preservation method of the amputated part (p=0.007; V=0.697), bone shortening (p=0.044; V=0.430), and duration of anticoagulant therapy (p=0.026; V=0.503). No statistically significant association was observed between ischemia time and early outcomes (p=0.155).
Conclusion: Forearm replantation for traumatic amputation achieved favorable early limb survival outcomes. Factors including the preservation method of the amputated part, injury pattern, bone shortening, and duration of anticoagulant therapy were significantly associated with early postoperative outcomes.
