THE CORRELATION BETWEEN RED CELL DISTRIBUTION WIDTH AND SOME PARACLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS IN TYPE 2 DIABETES AT THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the correlation between red cell distribution width and some paraclinical characteristics in patients with type 2 diabetes at Thai Nguyen National Hospital.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 374 type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) including 289 diabetic patients without nephropathy and 85 diabetic patients with diabetic nephropathy at the Outpatient Department of Thai Nguyen National Hospital.
Results: The mean red cell distribution width (RDW) was 13.79±1.34% in diabetic patients without nephropathy and 14.88±1.94% in diabetic patients with nephropathy. Red blood cell (RBC) and hemoglobin (Hb) levels were significantly lower in diabetic patients with nephropathy compared with diabetic patients without nephropathy. There was a moderate, significant negative correlation between RDW and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). There was a negative correlation between MCV and plasma glucose. There was a positive correlation between RBC and Hb indices and plasma glucose.
Conclusion: A correlation was observed between RDW, several other erythrocyte indices and estimated eGFR, glucose concentration.
