RESULTS OF SINGLE-DONOR PLATELETPHERESIS PROCEDURES AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEMATOLOGY AND BLOOD TRANSFUSION

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of the 250 mL single-donor plateletpheresis procedure performed using automated apheresis systems at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion from June 2025 to September 2025.
Methods: A comparative study was conducted to assess the performance of three automated blood component collection systems (MCS+, Trima Accel, and Amicore).
Results: All 1,448 platelet units collected across the three systems met quality standards. The Trima Accel had the shortest collection time (52.1 ± 9.1 minutes), the lowest WBC and RBC contamination, and the highest collection rate (CR: 0.060 ± 0.010 × 10¹¹/min). The Amicore yielded product quality comparable to the Trima Accel, accommodated the widest donor HCT range of the three systems, and achieved the highest collection efficiency (CE: 63.24 ± 5.8%). The MCS+ system had the longest procedure time (59.5 ± 9.2 minutes) and lower collection efficiency.
Conclusion: All apheresis platelet units met established quality standards. Each system has its own advantages and limitations; therefore, blood centers can flexibly select the most appropriate system based on their specific needs and budget.
