QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF RED CELL CONCENTRATES PREPARED BY ARCHIMEDE AUTOMATIC SEPARATOR SYSTEM AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEMATOLOGY AND BLOOD TRANSFUSION IN 2025.
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: In recent years, the use of automated blood component separator has contributed to improve the quality and consistency of blood components. At the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT), blood component separators are routinely used for large number blood component preparation. Therefore, the NIHBT introduced an additional Archimede system to expand the range and number of blood component separators.
Objective: To assess some quality parameters of red blood cell concentrates after preparation using the Archimedes system at National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT).
Subjects: A total of 200 units of 350 ml and 450 ml whole blood (WB) were processed into red blood cell (RBC) concentrates using the Archimede blood component separator system (Delcon, Italy). Samples of whole blood and the corresponding RBC concentrates were collected pre- and post - processing.
Methods: cross - sectional study.
Results: Over 96% of the 350 ml red cell concentrates and 97% of the 450 ml red cell concentrates were met quality standards of volume, hemoglobin and hematocrit, leukocyte residual. The yield of preparation of red cell concentrates reaches 87% for 350 ml blood bag and 85,9% for the 450 ml blood bag.
