Abstract

Objective: To identify common gene fusions using multiplex real-time PCR technique in patients with acute myeloid leukemia at Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital.

Subjects: Newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia patients at Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital from September 2025 to March 2026.

Methods: Case series study.

Results: We investigated common pathogenic gene fusions in 70 patients with acute myeloid leukemia, age at diagnosis ranged from 18 to 83 years, median age 46 years, male/female ratio 1/1. Gene fusions were detected in 38.6% of patients, including PML-RARA (24.3%), CBFB-MYH11 (4.3%), AML1-ETO (2.9%), BCR-ABL (2.9%), MLL-AF9 (1.4%), DEK-CAN (1.4%), and MLL-ELL (1.4%). The detection results of common gene fusions by multiplex real-time PCR technique were completely consistent with the identification results of these abnormalities by karyotyping.

Conclusion: Multiplex real-time PCR technique has high accuracy and can be effectively applied in diagnosis, risk stratification, prognosis, and selection of personalized treatment regimens for patients with acute myeloid leukemia. The results of this study provide data on the frequency of pathogenic gene fusions in acute myeloid leukemia, serving as a scientific basis for developing minimal residual disease monitoring strategies and personalized treatment for Vietnamese patients.
