THE SEXUAL RESPONSE CYCLE IN PATIENTS WITH MANIA

Abstract

Our study aimed to investigate the sexual response cycle in manic patients treated in Institute of Mental Health - Bach Mai hospital. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study, included 60 patients diagnosed with mania according to ICD-10 criteria (including diagnostic codes: F30, F31.0, F31.1, F31.2). Results: the mean age of manic patients was 33.3 ± 11.2 years old. There were more women than men, and the female/male ratio was about 1.3/1. The majority of men desired to have sex 3-4 times/week (61.5%) while almost of women  desired 1-2 times/week (p < 0.05). Manic patients were easily sexually aroused (86.7%) and most of them achieved orgasm during sex (75%). Only about 25% of patients failed to achieve orgasm. After sex, most manic patients were satisfied (91.7%).
