CHARACTERISTICS OF DRY EYE IN PATIENTS WITH PRIMARY SJÖGREN SYNDROME

Abstract

Purpose: Describe the charecteristics of dry eye in patients with primary Sjögren Syndrome (pSS). Patients and method:  Prospective study carried on 40 eyes of 20 patients with primary SS. Collected and analized indicators were ages, sex, VA, OSDI lacrimation (TBUT, Shirmer I), corneal staining score, conjuntival staining score, systemic symtoms. Result: The results showed that: the average age of the patients is 51.5±10.4, female-to-male ratio is of 9/1. Common systemic symtoms: xerostomia, fatigue, colpoxerosis, swelling of the parotid glands. The average score of OSDI, Schirmer I, TBUT, corneal staining score and conjunctival staining score are: 64.7±14.03, 3.23±3.18, 0.7±1.16s, 12.5±2.41, 10.28±3.42, respectively. Conclusion: Sjögren symtom Dry eye (SSDE) is more common in women, with more severe symtoms than non Sjögren symtom Dry eye (NSDE).
