KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, PRACTICE ON EARLY DETECTION OF GLAUCOMA AND MEDICAL SERVICE PROVISION OF GRASSROOT HEALTH WORKERS IN HUE CITY

Abstract

Objective: Evaluation of knowledge, attitude and practice on early detecting glaucoma of grassroots-level health workers. Evaluation of the ability to provide glaucoma medical services of grassroots-level health units in Hue city. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional method was conducted with 135 health workers at 27 grassroots-level health units of Hue city. Results: The prevalence of health workers with good knowledge and good attitude were 7,4% and 11,1%, respectively; 0,7% of health workers had good practice; 28,9% of health workers knew how to test vision. The prevalence of health workers who know how to measure intraocular pressure by hand was only 0,7%. Grassroots-level health units did not regularly provide glaucoma medical services in which only 0,8% of them regularly used the available facilities to detect glaucoma. Only 1,5% of health workers has regularly consulted on eye diseases as glaucoma. Conclusions: Knowledge, attitude and good practice about glaucoma of grassroot health workers are quite low. The ability to provide glaucoma medical services at grassroots-level health units is still very limited.
