Abstract

Objectives: Evaluate the results of surgical treatment and survival time of small intestine cancer. Subjects and methods: Retrospective descriptive and longitudinal studies of 45 patients with primary small intestine cancer after surgery at Bach Mai Hospital from 2012 to 2016. Data on evaluation of diagnosis pre-operation, histopathology, short-term and long-term results of treatment. Results: This disease was most common for people from 41 to 60 years old, with equivalent proportions of men and women. 64.4% of patients being diagnosed pre-operation. Sarcoma was the most common type (51.1%) while carcinoid was the least frequent (4.4%), with no case of malignant neuroma. After 1 month of surgery, no deaths occured, 8.9% had complications of surgical site infections. The survival time after surgery (as of 2018) is 71.1 ± 1.98 months on average, in which the adenocarcinoma had the shortest survival time, carcinoid tumor had the longest survival time, patients under 30 years old had a shorter survival time. Conclusion: The ability to perform the surgical treatment for small bowel cancer is relatively good, accidents and complications are low, the survival time depends on the patient's age and especially the hystological type.
