Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the results of management of early postpartum hemorrhage after vaginal birth at Hanoi obstetrics and gynecology hospital from January 2019 to December 2020. Subjects and methods: All women diagnosed with postpartum hemorrhage within 24 hours after vaginal delivery and treated at Hanoi obstetrics and gynecology hospital from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020, meeting the selection criteria. Results: Among 98 cases of postpartum hemorrhage, 71 women had successful hemostasis at the first treatment, and none of them died. This high proportion is due to the application of many prevention and treatment methods. There were 5 cases of uterine atony who failed with uterine control and oxytocic agents use, accounting for 5.1%. Suture of vaginal - perineal - cervical laceration, and collection of perineal hematoma are the two main methods in the management of postpartum hemorrhage due to genital tract trauma. Rate of blood transfusion in the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage was 80.6%, mainly of which was red blood cells. Conclusion: Medical therapy is the method of choice and the first priority in the treatment of postpartum uterine atony. If it is not effective, it is necessary to switch to uterine artery ligation or hysterectomy.
