Abstract

Objectives: Assessment of the nutritional status of children under 5 years of age with acute diarrhea at the Center for Pediatric Medicine, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. Subjects: 118 children aged 0 to 59 months were diagnosed with acute diarrhea and were treated at the center for Pediatric Medicine, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital from 01/2021 to 12/2021. Methods: A descriptive study. Results: The majority of patients with acute diarrhea were in districts, accounting for 67.8% compared with Thai Nguyen city 32.2%, the difference was statistically significant with p<0.05. Patients with acute diarrhea aged 12-59 months tend to have acute diarrhea more than the age group 0-11 months (68.6% versus 31.4%, p<0.05). There was no relationship between age group and degree of dehydration in children (p>0.05). The percentage of underweight malnutrition patients was 11.9%, the rate of overweight children was 4, 2%. The percentage of overweight children only in the age group 12-59 months accounted for 6.2%, this difference was not statistically significant with p>0.05. There is a relationship between underweight malnutrition and the degree of dehydration of children (p<0.05). Conclusions: The rate of underweight malnutrition of children under 5 years old with acute diarrhea at the Center for Pediatric Medicine, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital in 2021 is 11.9%. The rate of overweight children in the age group of 12-59 months is 6.2%. There is a relationship between underweight malnutrition and the degree of dehydration of children (p<0.05).
