Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the characteristics and identify some risk factors for febrile seizures in children at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. Subjects: All patients admitted to the Pediatric Center of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital were diagnosed with febrile convulsions. Methods: Descriptive study. Results: Febrile seizures were common in children 6-36 months, accounting for 81,5%. The mean age at admission was 22,66 ± 12,71 months. Seizures occur when the child's body temperature is at 39-400 C with the highest rate of 69,3%. Simple febrile seizures accounted for 82,5% of cases, complex febrile seizures accounted for 16,6%, febrile seizures status accounted for 0,9%. The cause of fever in FS is mainly upper respiratory tract disease 62,5%. The rate of perinatal asphyxia in the CFS group was 21.1% higher than that in the SFS group which was 2.1%. Conclusions: Febrile convulsions mainly occur in children 6-36 months, mostly simple seizures, high risk of seizures when the child's body temperature is above 390 C, upper respiratory tract infection. Asphyxia at birth is a risk factor for febrile seizures.
