Abstract

Objective: Describe the ultrasound image of the median nerve in carpal tunnel syndrome and the relationship between the severity, moderate, and mild on electromyography with the ultrasound image of the median nerve. Materials & methods: Patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome according to diagnostic criteria of American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine were performed ultrasound. Study design: cross-sectional description. Results: In our study, the difference in nerve area (Delta S) between the mean in the severe, moderate and mild groups according to the electromyography grade was 9.9±5.7mm2, 6.1±1.9mm2, 3.7±1.6mm2, respectively. The Delta S in the mild group was smaller than the severe and moderate severity group, the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). The ratio of the median nerve area in the severe, moderate and mild groups according to the electromyography grade was 2.3±0.8, 1.9±0.3, 1.5±0.8, respectively, in the mild group was lower than in the moderate and severe group, statistically significant (p<0.05).
