CHARACTERISTICS OF CLINICAL AND ENDOSCOPY FINDINGS IN CHILDREN WITH DUODENAL ULCER INFECTED WITH HELICOBACTER PYLORI AT THE THANH HOA PEDIATRIC HOSPITAL

Abstract

The clinical characteristics of duodenal ulcer in children are aslo varied and non-specific, and many children go to emergency by bleeding upper gastroenterology. Aim: to describe clinical characteristics and lesion morphology on esophagogastroduodenoscopy of duodenal ulcer disease infected with H. pylori in children at Thanh Hoa Pediatric Hospital. Materials and methods: a prospective study described a case series of 102 patients having duodenal ulcers infected with H. pylori at Thanh Hoa Pediatric Hospital. Results: Boy to girl ratio was 4.7/1. Mean age was 11 ± 2.7 (5-16 years). Prevalence of chronic pain abdominal was 95.1%; in which epigastric pain is 62.9%; pain before eating’s 25.8%; dull abdominal pain is 84.5%. Other symptoms as nausea or vomiting, burping or heartburning, anemia are 51%; 51%; 60.8%, respectively; Rate of  upper gastrointestinal bleeding was 55.9%. Duodenal bulb ulcer is the most common lesion, (accounts for 95.1%), in which ulcer in front of duodenal bulb accounts for the highest percentage (44.1%); from 2 lesions of duodenum ulcer are 27.5%; lession with Forrest  grade IIb and III are 14.7% and 85.3%, respectively. Conclusion: Duodenal ulcers with H.pylori in children are tendency increasing. Aspects clinical have also poor symptoms so lead to hospitalize in emergency by digestive bleeding.
