Abstract

Objective: Our study aims to decribe the situation of alcoholic abuse and clinical characteristics of acute pancreatitis patients at Bach Mai hospital during three months in 2009. Subjects and methods: We conducted this descriptive study on 92 acute pancreatitis patients diagnosed at Bach Mai Hospital from March, 2019 to June, 2019. Results: The median age at diagnosis was 46.9 ± 12.4 years (range 25-80) and male/female ratio was 4.2/1. The proportions of alcoholic abuse were 56.5%. There were 91.3% of patients diagnosed with acute abdominal pain. The average visual analog scale VAS assessed by admitted patients was 6.59 ± 1.65, of which the severe pain 7-9 points were with 29 patients (31.53%). Conclusions: The prevention of alcohol abuse in patients with acute pancreatitis is essential to prevent the recurrence of this condition.
