Abstract

Objectives: Review of surgical treatment of thymic epithelial tumors and update the literature on this treatment. Methods: Retrospective descriptive study of 53 patients with thymus tumors underwent thymectomy at Viet Duc University Hospital from 2016 to 2020. Results: Including 30 men and 23 women. Average age 42,04 ± 19,13 (9 - 78). Include 39 patients for VATS and 14 patients for classical open surgery. Operative time: 111 ± 59 minutes (43 - 348). The average hospital time 6,9 ± 2,9 days (4-18). There was no postoperative death. One patient had dialysis after operation. Anatomical results of thymus tumor: 14 types A, 13 type AB, 09 type B1, 10 type B2, 04 type B3, 03 squamous cell carcinoma. Conclusion: Surgery to treat thymic epithelial tumors are the first choice, but the choice of classical open surgery or video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery needs to be based on a number of factors such as histopathology, size and tumor stage. Extendly thymectomy should always be taken into account when performing surgical treatment of this type of pathology.
