IMPACT OF EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION ON KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PREVENTING EXPOSURES TO BLOOD AND BODY FLUIDS AMONG NURSING STUDENT IN NAM DINH UNIVERSITY OF NURSING

Abstract
Knowledge of preventing about occupational exposures is the foundation for nursing students to have a positive attitude and self-correct about behavior in the prevention of exposure to blood and body fluids. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on knowledge about preventing exposures to blood and body fluids among nursing student in Nam Dinh University of Nursing. Material and method: 182 final year full-time nursing students are randomly selected, participated in discussions by clinical situations in small groups and had their knowledge assessed with questionnaires at three different times (pre-intervention, immediate after intervention and 1 month after intervention). Results: mean score conceptual and modal; Basic health care; precautions; First aid; report and setup; risk assessment; assess the source in turn 8.38; 8.36; 9.38; 7.84; 8.13; 9.14; 7.07 points and increased 9,57; 9,35; 9,87; 9,26; 9,12; 9,67; 9,19 points after educational intervention. General average score knowledge before educational intervention is 7,71 ± 0,71 points, increase 9,22 ± 0,54 points and maintain 9,19 ± 0,65 points after 1 month educational intervention, the difference is statistically significant with p <0.001. Conclusion: The educational intervention program to improve knowledge for final year nursing students on prevention of exposure to blood and body fluids has achieved good results and is sustainable.
