PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 EPIDEMIC ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF NURSES AT VIETNAM NATIONAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN 2021

Abstract

Objectives: To describe thepsychological impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the mental health of nurses at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital in 2021. Subjects and research methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study using Impact of Event Scale - Revised(IES-R) and DASS 21 on 280 nurses working at the Vietnam National Children's Hospital from August 2021 to June 2022. Results: 28.9% of nurses showed signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. 9.8% participants had mild symptom, moderate with 9.3%, and 12.9% had severe symptom. The mean IES-Rscore of subjects was 22.4 ± 9.7 (Min: 11, Max: 44). The prevalence of stress was 26.1%, anxiety was 35.4% and depression was 31.8%. Conclusion: Timely counseling and psychological interventions are needed for nurses to to alleviate their anxiety and improve their general mental health.
