Abstract

Objective: To describe the medication adherence and some factors affecting medication adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes in Hanoi Medical University hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study with two methods of data collection (telephone interview with questionnaires and restrospective data on the hospital’s software system) was used. R software was used to perform descriptive analysis. Results: 79.3% participants adhered to drug use. The mean score of medication adherence was 6.87 (SD=1.41). The factors including demographic, disease management, disease, knowledge about diabetes drugs and attitude were used to analysis the impact to medication non-adherence. Four fators including family history with diabetes,  regular monitoring blood glucose levels, fear of drug side effects, fear of complication were significant difference. Conclusion: Participants had relatively good medication adherence and there were a number of factors having significant difference between the medication adherence and non-adherence.
