Abstract

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression among students of Hanoi Medical University in the academic year 2020-2021 under the context of Covid-19 pandemic and some related factors. A cross-sectional study was carried out on 1325 students of Hanoi Medical University using the DASS 21 scale to assess depression. Other information was collected by self-reported questionnaires. Results: the prevalence of depression among medical students was 57.1%. In which, mild depression was 16.5%, moderate depression accounted for 25.1%, severe depression was 7.1% and extreme severe was 8.4%. Factors associated with the risk of having depression among students were financial difficulties, difficulties regarding online learning. Covid-19 factors included worrying about the disease spreading and having sick, fear of infecting Covid-19 to the family. To enhance the mental health of students during Covid-19, they should actively practice, improve their health and have an appropiate timetable. The school should provide care and supports students who have financial difficulties.
