Abstract

Objective: Assessing the knowledge regarding prevention of gestational diabetes among the pregnant women who had antenatal check-up at the Outpatient Department of Nam Dinh provincial Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2021. Participants and methods: The study was conducted on 60 pregnant women who had antenatal check-up at the Outpatient Department of Nam Dinh provincial Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology from April 2021 to June 2021. With the cross-sectional descriptive research method, the sample size was selected according to the whole sampling method. Results: The percentage of pregnant women who knew the way to prevent gestational diabetes was still low, accounted for just over 50%. Especially, the way of controlling weight and limiting the use of salt and stimulants are very good ways to reduce the risk of gestational diabetes during pregnancy but only 51.7% and 53.3% of whom knew. Only 38.3% of pregnant women knew when to have a test to detect gestational diabetes. The research results show that the number of pregnant women with good knowledge accounts for 43.3%; pregnant women with inadequate knowledge accounted for 56.7%. The average point of general knowledge towards gestational diabetes prevention of pregnant women is 7.43 ± 1.31, the lowest is 4 points, the highest is 16 points. Conclusion: the knowledge regarding prevention of gestational diabetes among pregnant women was still low. The percentage of pregnant women with the knowledge was 43.3%. The average score of pregnant women's knowledge towards gestational diabetes prevention was 7.43 ± 1.31. Only 38.3% of whom knew the right time to have a test to detect gestational diabetes.
