CHARACTERISTICS OF EATING HABITS AND DIETARY PATTERNS PATIENTS IN DEPRESSIVE EPISODES

Abstract

We carried out a study with the goal of describing the characteristics  of eating habits and dietary patterns of patients in depressive episodes. This is a  cross-sectional study, included 68 patients who were diagnosed with mild, moderate and severe depressive episode according to  ICD-10's code (F32) in National Institute of Mental Health - Bach Mai Hospital. The results show that the mean age of depressed patients who had  eating disorders was 40.01 ± 15.79 and most of them were  female (64.7%). 95.6% of patients with depression had eating symptoms. Eating symptoms mostly occurred in time period of depression (63.2%). There was 16.2% of patients with depression had the habit of eating alone and 64.7% had  unhealthy eating habits. Among patients with unhealthy eating habits, the rate of emotional eating was highest (50%). The frequency of emotional eating and preference for sweets were higher in female than in male.
