Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the result of treatment of brain arteriovenous malformations by combining embolization and surgery at Hanoi Medical University Hospital. Materials and methods: Retrospective study of 12 patients who diagnosed with brain arteriovenous malformation were treated with embolization and surgery at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from August 2019 to March 2022. Results: The mean age was 28.9. The rate of patients admitted to the hospital when the brain arteriovenous malformation was broken was 66.7%, and 33.3% was unbroken. All patients were embolized once before surgery. The average node rate is 73.3%. In which, 33.3% of patients got 100% node. In which, 83.3% of patients had surgery to remove the entire malformation, 8.3% to remove a part of the malformation, 8.3% had surgery to drain the ventricles. The average blood loss was 177.5ml. 50% of patients had surgery within 24 hours, 41.7% were operated within 8 days. There was one case of surgery after 6 months. Near postoperative results:  83.3% of patients had good results, 16.7% had average results and no bad results.
