PRACTICE AND SOME FACTORS RELATED TO PRACTICE AMONG TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS AT XAY DUNG HOSPITAL DURING THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease of social characteristics. The Covid-19 pandemic caused a number of changes in personal and social life and affected the adherence to habits that help manage blood sugar among people with diabetes. The study aims to describe  practice and factors related to self-care of outpatients with type 2 diabetes treated at Xay Dung Hospital during Covid-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study, which was conducted with a sample size of 300 patients with type 2 diabetes who met the interview criteria using a pre-prepared questionnaire. As the results, only 56.3% of patients practiced good self-care with an average score of 14.28 ± 2.71 out of a total score of 21. The adherence to dietary practices, self-control of blood sugar and exercises is poor. Self-care practice is related to education level, disease duration and self-care knowledge. In conclusion, it is necessary to combine many measures such as health education, promotion of monitoring and patient clubs to support improving self-care practices for people with type 2 diabetes, especially during the Covid19 period.
