SURVEY STRESS, DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY OF PARENTS HAVE CHIDREN WITH AUTISM AT THAI BINH CHIDREN’S HOSPITAL IN 2020

Abstract

Objective: To survey stress, depression and anxiety of parents have children with autism at Thai Binh Children's Hospital in 2020. Subjects and research methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study carried out from October 2020 to October 2021 on 157 parents (76 fathers, 81 mothers) of 83 children with autism came for examination and treatment at the psychology Department, Thai Binh Children's Hospital. Using direct interview method to collect necessary information and DASS-21 scale to assess stress, anxiety and depression of parents have children with autism. Results: The percentage of parents with stress expression was 23.6%, mainly mild and moderate stress, the most common stress symptoms were difficulty resting and restlessness. The percentage of parents with depression was 24.8%, most of them have mild and moderate depression. The most common depressive symptoms are boredom and pessimism. The percentage of parents with anxiety symptoms was 21.7%, common anxiety was mild and moderate. The most common symptoms of anxiety are dry mouth and avoidance.
