KNOWLEDGE, PRACTICE OF BREAST SELF-EXAMININATION AMONG WOMEN 18-60 YEARS IN CAN THO

Abstract
Background: Breast self-examination is recommended for early detection of breast cancer and to reduce mortality from breast cancer. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of good knowledge and practice for breast self-examination and related factors among women 18-60 year in Can Tho, 2020. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 286 women 18-60 in Can Tho from May to September 2020. Direct interviews recorded knowledge, practice of breast self-examination and some related factors. Data processing was analyzed by SPSS software in version 20.0. Results: the rates of good knowledge and practice for breast self-examination were 22% and 18,2%, respectively. Knowledge of breast self-examination was better in women who are officers, high school education or higher, under 2 children and finding breast cancer information with p <0,05. There were two factors related to practice of breast self-examination, in which, marital status and knowledge of breast self-examination. Good practice of breast self-examination among women with single and better knowledge was higher than others 3,104 times (95% CI 1,212-7,948) and 4,57 times (95% CI 2,039-10,243) respectively. Conclusion: Knowledge and practice of breast self-examination among women 18-60 years old in Can Tho city are quite low. Factors that need to be noticed to enhance knowledge and practice of breast self-examination are low education, without approaching to breast cancer information, and getting many children.
