INITIAL RESULT OF BIPOLAR TRANSURETHRAL ENUCLEATION OF THE PROSTATE IN THE TREATMENT OF LARGE-VOLUME BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA

Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the initial result of bipolar transurethral enucleation of the prostate in the treatment of large-volume benign prostatic hyperplasia. Patients and methods: a prospective case-serial study was performed on patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who had prostatic volume in the range of 60 to 120 ml. All the patients were undergone bipolar transurethral enucleation of the prostate in 108 Military Central Hospital, from August 2021 to February 2022. Results: There were 12 patients with 81.6 ml of the prostate on average. The mean age was 68.1 y-o. The duration of enucleation and morcellation were 66.2 mins and 33.7 mins, respectively. There was no sign of intra- or postoperative endoscopic syndrome. None of the patients needed a blood transfusion. The difference between pre- and postoperative sodium concentrations was not statistically. The prostate volume might not be related to the procedure time as well as blood loss. Conclusion: Bipolar transurethral enucleation of the prostate is safe in the surgical treatment of large volume benign prostatic hyperplasia.
