THE CLINICAL, SUBCLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND TREATMENT OF EPILEPSY IN CHILDREN AT THANH HOA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objectives and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional studies clinical and subclinical characteristics and treatment results of 115 children under 6 years of age with epilepsy at Thanh Hoa children’s hospital from October 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021. Results: Among children under 6 years of age, generalized epilepsy was the most common 62.6%, tonic-clonic seizures had the highest rate 47.2%, and spasms accounted for 11.1%. Partial seizures accounted for 34.8%, simple partial seizures accounted for the highest rate 62.5%. Electroen cephalogram showed that 82.6% of records had abnormalities. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging detected lesions in 46.1% of cases, of which brain tissue damage was 22.6%. After 6 months of treatment, the rate of seizure freedom was 37.4%, reduction was 47.8%, and no reduction was 14.8%. Conclusions: Epilepsy is a disease of concern in children at Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital. It is necessary to enhance the knowledge and practical clinical skills for doctors on the classification of seizures and selection of appropriate antiepileptic drugs to achieve more effective treatment
