PRACTICE PREVENTION OF SURGICAL SITE INFECTION AMONG NURSES IN NAM DINH GENERAL HOSPITAL, 2020

Abstract

Objective: to describe the practice prevention of surgical site infection among nurses in Nam Dinh General Hospital in 2020. Subjects and research methods: Cross-sectional description was used to recruited 52 nurses in 4 surgical departments of Nam Dinh General Hospital. The participants’ practice prevention of surgical site infection were measured using checklists. Results: The percentage of nurses with good practice in preventing infection was 65.87%. In which, the good practice of routine hand hygiene with alcohol-based hand sanitizer was 74.9% and the good practice of changing sterile surgical dressings was 65.87%. Conclusion: Although it is a routine nursing procedure, the percentage of nurses with inadequate practice in preventing surgical site infections is quite high, accounting for 34.13%. The hospitals should have a regular training plan for nurses and provide easy-to-understand instructions on prevention of surgical site infections to ensure nurses have enough knowledge and translate it into desired practice.
