Abstract

Introduction: The study aims to assess the treatment outcomes of ORIF with locking plate in adult combined intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures in Viet Duc Hospital. Subject and methodology: This article is a retrospectively and prospectively descriptive study on 32 adults treated with ORIF with locking plate for combined closed intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures in Viet Duc University Hospital between March 2018 and March 2020. Results: The majority of patients were male (71,9%) and were within 41 to 60 years old (50%). The most common mechanism of injury was traffic accident (46,9%), 90,6% of the patients had femur fracture without major visceral concomittant injuries. Good and excellent results accounted for 84,4% while average and poor results were 12,5% and 3,1%. Conclusion: Combined intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fracture in adults is a severe trauma that affects hip function markedly. Open reduction and internal fixation with locking plate helps stabilize and anatomically reduce the facture, facillitate early rehabilitation which would lead to good post operative results.
