NURSES’ ATTITUDE ON FALL PREVENTION FOR THE ELDERLY IN FRIENDSHIP HOSPITAL AND SOME RELATED FACTORS

Abstract

Objective: To describe the attitude of nurses at Friendship Hospital on fall prevention for the elderly and some related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive research was conducted from March to June 2021 on 189 registered nurses at Friendship Hospital. Results: 86.8% of nurses have a positive attitude toward fall prevention; 97.4% of nurses are concerned about fall prevention; 48.7% of nurses are confident in their fall prevention ability. Percentage of nurses who have positive attitude in the group with less than 5 years working experience, updating their fall prevention knowledge, wanting to learn about fall prevention, knowing that fall prevention is a criterion for assessing hospital quality, knowing any fall prevention program was higher than the another group with (OR=3.96; 95% CI: 1.65-9.52), (OR=6.58; 95% CI: 1.84-23), respectively. ,55), (OR=5.46; 95%CI: 1.14-26.01), (OR=5.02; 95% CI: 1.31-1924); (OR=3.54; 95% CI:1.27-9.89), respectively. Conclusion: Most nurses have a positive attitude toward fall prevention (86.8%). The factors which influenced fall prevention attitude were working experience and fall prevention knowledge updating.
