Abstract

A descriptive cross-sectional study on 374 mothers with children under 5 years old was carried out in Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province with the aim of describing knowledge, practice and some related factors about hand and foot disease of mothers with children under 5 years old. Through parsing, it is shown that mothers with children under 5 years of age have low general knowledge about HFMD prevention. In terms of practice, the percentage of mothers who perform general HFMD prevention is relatively good. However, the content still reached a low level such as: the source of receiving information on prevention of HFMD by mothers from the Ministry of Health (MOH) but low while the need to receive information from health workers is high. The results of the study also showed that mothers with children under 5 years of age had correct knowledge of limb disease 42.1%, correct format was 76.9% and correct performance was 53.0%. There is a statistically significant relationship between knowledge and practice of HTCM prevention (OR = 4.58, p < 0.05). Therefore, there is a need for new activities that can improve mothers' knowledge of HFMD and continue to maintain various programs aimed at creating the best HFMD situation in the community.
