Abstract

A cross-sectional study was performed to determine serum uric acid levels in psoriasis patients at the National Hospital of Dermatology. The study was conducted on 240 psoriasis patients and 122 patients with other skin diseases in the control group. The results showed that the mean serum uric acid concentration in the group of psoriasis patients was relatively high 365.1 ± 88.2 µmol/L, higher than the control group 322.8 ± 68.5 µmol/L. The percentage of cases with increased serum uric acid levels in the group of psoriasis patients was 3 times higher than that of the control group (28.3% and 8.2%). There was no association between duration of disease and age of psoriasis onset with serum uric acid levels. The average serum uric acid concentration of the group of patients with severe psoriasis had the highest value and decreased gradually according to the disease severity according to the PASI index. There was a statistically significant difference in the proportion of patients with increased serum uric acid between the mild, moderate and severe disease groups.
