Abstract

This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the appropriate use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for stress ulcer prophylaxis (SUP) in inpatients discharged from Viet Duc Hospital in March 2021. Of 135 patients included in the study, the proportion of rational prescription for SUP at the beginning of PPI use and throughout the whole treatment period were 29.6% and 77.0%, respectively. Appropriate PPI dosing was 99.1%, appropriate administration route was 74.8%, and appropriate time of use was 37.5% of patients. The study results show that a SUP guideline for clinically ill patients including non-ICU patients is essential to promote prescription quality and patient safety.
