CLINICAL FEATURES OF SUICIDAL BEHAVIORS IN LUNG CANCER INPATIENTS AT THE NUCLEAR MEDICINE AND ONCOLOGY CENTER – BACH MAI HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study is to describe the clinical features of suicidal behaviors in patients with lung cancer. Subjects and research methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study of 256 lung cancer inpatients at The Nuclear Medicine and Oncology center in Bach Mai Hospital from August 2021 to April 2022. Results: Studying subjects are mainly male (76,6%) with the average age of 61,11 ± 10,39. There are 8,2% of patients reporting suicidal ideations, which on average occur 2–5 times a week (frequency = 2,86 ± 1,32), and last for less than 1 hour or some of the time (duration = 2,29 ± 1,15). No suicide attempts were reported. Conclusion: Suicidal ideation is common in patients with lung cancer, they are potentially at high risk for suicide. Health care providers and policy makers are required to early screen patients at high risk of suicide and increase treatment of psychiatric disorders in large hospitals.
