EVALUATING CLINICAL AND NERVE CONDUCTION STUDIES CHANGES IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE UNDERGOING HEMODIALYSIS IN COMBINATION WITH ONLINE HEMODIAFILTRATION

Abstract
Background: The rate of peripheral neuropathy is relatively high, especially in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. Therefore, early detection and treatment of peripheral neuropathy can improve patient's quality of life. Objectives: to evaluate clinical changes and nerve conduction studies after hemodialysis (HD) combined with online hemodiafiltration (HDF-Online) in ESRD patients. Subjects and method: a cross-sectional descriptive study in 80 ESRD patients on hemodialysis at Can Tho General hospital from July 2021 to July 2022. Results: men were 47.5%, the mean age was 54,5±15,65. After 6 months, the proportion of patients with sensory disorders decreased from 75% to 45%, nutritional disorders decreased from 38.8% to 21.25% and reflex disorders from 35% to 12.5%. For the peroneal nerve conduction indices: motor conduction velocity (MCV) and amplitude increased, and distal latency (dL) significantly decreased after 6 months. For the tibia nerve, both MCV and amplitude increased. The reduction in distal latency was not statistically significant. In ulnar nerve, amplitude increased, distal latency decreases after 6 months. In median nerve, nerve conduction indices significantly improved. Conclusions: The combination of HD and HDF-Online can improve the clinical features, some of the nerve conduction indices in ESRD patients.
