Abstract

Health insurance implements a mechanism to share risks and financial burdens due to illness and disease in order to achieve equity in health care, while also helping to reduce the burden on the State budget. This study was conducted to describe the current state of knowledge and practice about health insurance of first-year medical students at Hanoi Medical University in 2021 and some related factors. A cross-sectional descriptive study conducted on 331 subjects showed that the highest percentage of knowledge and practice achieved by specialized group was 2.42% and 20.24%, respectively, among students majoring in General Medicine. department. Factors related to successful practice scores are: parents not working in medicine/pharmacy (OR=0.54, 95%CI: 0.30-0.96). Knowledge and practice of health insurance among first-year medical students at Hanoi Medical University is very low.
