Abstract

Objective: Congenital trachea stenosis due to complete trachea ring was life-threatening, especially with symptomatic small infants. This study was conducted to evaluate the short-term results of sliding tracheoplasty for complete trachea ring in Children Heart Center-National Children’s Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam. Methods: From September 2016 to March 2021, all patients were operated on using slide tracheoplasty technique, in those diagnosed with congenital trachea stenosis due to complete trachea ring, were retrospective study. Results: There were 23 patients, with gender male/female was 13/10, collected during the study period who underwent slide tracheoplasty. The median age of the study group was 314.3 ± 176.4 days (66 – 814 days). The median length of the stenotic trachea was 3.6cm (range, 2-6cm). There was 1 early death (4.7%). 3 patients required preoperative ventilation and underwent emergency operations.  Anatomic of the trachea were: 19 patients are normal (82.6%), 3 patients (13%) are bronchus suis and 1 patient (4.4%) are single lung with right lung hypoplasia. Conclusion: The early results of slide tracheoplasty for children with complete trachea ring in Children Heart Center, Hanoi is excellent and comparable with other centers in the world. Long-term follow-up is essential.
