SOME FACTORS RELATING TO FALLS IN THE ELDERLY IN FOUR COMMUNES IN VU THU, THAI BINH IN 2022

Abstract
Objective: To judge some factors relating to falls in the elderly in 4 communes in Vu Thu, Thai Binh in 2022. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 3038 elderly people in 4 communes in Vu Thu district from March 2022 to July 2022 by direct interview through a pre-designed toolkit including general information, history of falls, illnesses of subjects and fall risk questionnaire (FRQ) of STEADI- CDC - USA 2017 has been translated into Vietnamese and tested for reliability. Results: fall rate was 35.3%, risk of falls was 47.8%, some factors relating to falls were age >75 (OR: 3.049, 95%CI: 2.589-3.590), BMI >23 (OR: 2.233, 95%CI: 1.709-2.917), eye diseases (OR: 1.345, 95%CI: 1.123-1.610), musculoskeletal diseases (OR: 1.441, 95%CI: 1.222-1.699), foot abnormalities (OR: 1.586, 95%CI: 1.053-2.390), using mobility aids (OR: 1.290, 95%CI: 1.037-1,605), p<0.05. Conclusions: Some factors relating to falls in the elderly are age >75, BMI>23, eye diseases, musculoskeletal diseases, foot abnormalities. Therefore, it is necessary to have an appropriate intervention program to reduce the risk of falls for the elderly.
