Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Hypertension causes dangerous complications such as myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease, etc. Properly and timely treatment of hypertension helps to reduce mortality as well as complication due to diseases related to hypertension. Objectives: To determine the proportion of antihypertensive drugs and the rationality of using antihypertensive drugs in the treatment of hypertension in outpatients at Bac Lieu Province General Hospital from April 2021 to March 2022. Materials and methods: Prescriptions of hypertensive patients aged 18 years and older, treated as outpatients at the Outpatient Department of Bac Lieu Province General Hospital in April 2021 to March 2022. A retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study. The study sample size was 1,342 prescriptions for hypertension, using a systematic random sampling method. Results: All antihypertensive drugs in this study are on the recommended list of the Vietnam National Heart Association. Angiotensin II receptor blockers (CTTAs), beta blockers and calcium channel blockers were the three most commonly used drug classes (69.52%, 50.52% and 50.45%). The rate of using combination therapy was higher than the rate of using monotherapy (76.45% and 23.55%). The proportion of patients prescribed to use appropriate antihypertensive drugs was 63.04%. Conclusions: The Angiotensin II receptor blockers (CTTAs) was used the most with the rate of 69.52%. The rate of using combination therapy was 78.66%. The proportion of patients using appropriate antihypertensive drugs was 63.04%.
