Abstract

Objectives: Describe characteristic imagings and evaluation of computed tomography in the evaluation of tympanic membrane in atelectatic ears. Material and methods: The study describes ears of 74 atelectatic patients who had 64-128 slice temporal bone CT, at Bach Mai Hospital and National Otorhinorarynology Hospital from 12/2018 to 3/ 2020. Results: In the 74 patients, most of these are completed tympanic membrane atelectasis (82,4%). Atelectatic grade III and grade IV are common with 33.8% and 60,8%, respectively. Among atelectatic ears, tympanic membrane lesions on CT scanner contain: touching the middle ear structures: promontory 61/74 ears (82.4%), incus bone 48/74 ears (64.9%), neck of malleus bone 18/74 ears (24.3%), tympanic sinus 10/74 ears (13.5%), 2 cases cannot be assessed. When comparing the image of the tympanic lesions on CT and the tympanic lesions on surgery, we found that the correct diagnosis rate of CT for the change in lesions of the tympanic membrane was from 91.9% to 97.3%, in which CT has the highest accuracy (97.3%) when evaluating the tympanic membrane touching promontory. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the image on the CT of the tympanic membrane lesions in atelectatic patients compared with surgery.
