Abstract

Background: Muscular torticollis is the most common group of congenital torticollis due to muscle defects. Early rehabilitation before 1 year of age, especially under 3 months of age, helps them about neck motor function. Objectives: to assess the  results of rehabilitation treatment in infants under 3 months of age with muscular torticollis. Subjects and methods: studying in 64 children les than 3 month of age with muscular torticollis in Viet Nam Nation Children’s hospital, follow them after treatment and 1st month. Results: Side flexion deficits after treatment is 7.5 ± 2.3 degrees, after 1 month is 7.1 ± 2.7 degrees, statistically significant improvement p<0.05. rotation element deficits is 12.3 ± 3.1, after 1 month is 10.8 ± 3.3, the improvement is statistically significant p<0.05. The mean Cheng score after treatment was 11.7 ± 2.4, after 1 month was 10.7 ± 2.6, the improvement was statistically significant p<0.05. Most of Cheng's scores are good and fair. Conclusions: Early rehabilitation before 3 months of age helps to improve neck function of children with scoliosis due to muscular torticollis.
