Abstract

Endoscopic sinus surgery is a method of treating sinusitis, trauma, or tumor. Endoscopic sinus surgery performed since 1978. With an estimated overall eye complication rate of 0.24%. Some eye complications can be serious, leading to permanent blindness. Eye complications of surgery Endoscopic sinus surgery can be classified into five anatomical sites: eyeball, orbit, optic nerve, extraocular muscle, and lacrimal drainage system. Ocular complications vary in severity, from mild to severe or very severe, there are rare types and there are also different treatments for each type, after treatment can be fully recovered, partially recovered, or not recovered. An overview study on eye complications in endoscopic sinus surgery was reviewed in scientific articles, research papers on eye complications in endoscopic sinus surgery, research period from August 2021. until the end of August 2022. Results: 19 articles met research standards. The rate of eye complications ranged from 0.09% to 6.23%. Common ophthalmic complications are: Orbital hemorrhage/hematoma, Ocular muscle injury/diplopia, orbital fat drainage, reduction, loss of vision, tear duct injury. In which: Ocular muscle injury/double vision is the most common complication.
